Making the Most of My Education

My mother is constantly supplementing our education. The other day we had in depth conversation about how there are some kids like me who actually make the most of the public education we receive and build on it. It made me wonder why all kids don’t take advantage of this right that many other people in the world so long for. I do understand that homeschooling is better and from what I have found about it, that is true. But public education is not as bad as many people make it out to be so long the child takes advantage of the education. It also helps when their parents are engaged.

I do learn a lot and I do well. I am in the highest classes possible for my grade level and getting all A’s and B’s in them. I will admit that sometimes there does not seem to be any challenge there, but eventually it does get to be more challenging. My point is that getting a good education despite the governments’ standards is achievable. It does take a lot of work to stay above the rest. I have 3 years and 7 months of high school left. In the end I want to say I worked hard, remained above the rest and it all paid off.

I am soooo glad this is the case for you! I think you have an amazing mom, and clearly, she has an amazing daughter. I wish I'd been you when I was your age.

I hope you'll share your perspective in testimony and quiet witness with your schoolmates. Surely some of them could use the encouragement.

Keep building on!

Oh if I had the wisdom you have when I was your age! I think you hit it on the head: "... so as long the child takes advantage of the education." I would venture to guess many students, and parents, for that matter, have the mentality of "What will the schools give me/my children?" without any consideration that their education is really their responsibility. It is obvious your parents are doing a fabulous job raising you up.

I am new here. I read your mom's blog and enjoy her wisdom and wit. It looks like those are things she is passing on. :)

Hello, Bright Eyes--I found you through your mother's blog, which I found through Brenda's blog, which I found through Juliemom's blog. (For the record, I actually know Juliemom IRL. :-))

I love your attitude towards your education. I, too went to public school and LOVED it. I was successful in my classes (honors & AP) and loved participating in the music program. (I'm now an elementary music teacher in a public school.) Don't you find yourself answering questions that to you seem so simple & obvious, only to have your teachers marvel at how "mature and insightful" your thinking is? Growing up in the wisdom of God's Word will do that for you! :-)

Oh, and incidentally, my mother chose to homeschool my youngest brother while us two older ones finished up in public school. Be prepared to answer the "Isn't your mom afraid they won't have any friends?" question--you'll hear it a lot! But it was a powerful thing to see the educational process from the other side--it helped shape the teacher I've become. Your sisters won't be the only ones to benefit from homeschooling, I promise you.

Keep up the good work my dear. There is nothing better than to grow up in God's will, discovering who you are and the path He has for you. You are well on your way...
